The deal — Ryan acquires Comtax

Ryan is a US tax services and technology firm, founded in 1991 by G. Brint Ryan, who remains chairman and CEO. It is headquartered in Plano, Texas, and describes itself as the largest company in the world dedicated exclusively to corporate taxes, with more than 7,600 professionals and more than 87,000 clients in more than 80 countries, according to Ryan's own announcement. Comtax is a Brazilian tax technology and consulting firm, founded in 2018 by Marcelo Simões, Gilmar Brandão and Ricardo Carvalho, and based in São Paulo. It works in tax determination, compliance and technology-enabled tax operations, with nearly 70 team members.

The acquisition was announced by Ryan on October 5, 2026, reported by Baguete and announced by Oaklins, which advised Comtax's shareholders on the sale (see the announcement). The transaction value was not disclosed. For Ryan, the purchase establishes a presence in Brazil and expands its capabilities across Latin America; for Comtax, it opens access to the platform, technology and client network of a global organization. The founders and the team continue to serve clients from São Paulo.

lingo's role — communicating the deal to senior stakeholders

A deal between a US company and a Brazilian one has at least two audiences who need to hear the same message at the same time: the English-speaking leadership and stakeholders, and the leadership and stakeholders who work in Portuguese. Alex Barros provided English↔Portuguese simultaneous interpretation for this communication process, in a hybrid format, with in-person and remote participants hearing the same interpretation.

In deal communication, the margin for noise is small. Terms such as tax technology, tax determination, digital tax compliance and consumption tax reform must come out identical in both languages, and the name of every person, title and company has to be pronounced the same way every time. The interpreter knows this vocabulary before the session, from the material the client sends, and does not improvise on the spot.

Why the hybrid format demands extra preparation

In a hybrid format, part of the audience is in the room, with individual receivers, and part is online, listening to the interpretation channel through the videoconferencing platform. Both groups must receive the same interpretation, at the same moment, with no difference in quality between those present and those remote.

That is why lingo treats audio as part of the job: a main transmitter and a redundant transmitter, spare receivers, a sound check in advance and an interpretation channel configured on the platform before the session starts. See the pages on simultaneous interpretation for hybrid events and on remote simultaneous interpretation.

The vocabulary — M&A, taxes and technology

The conversation in a tax tech deal mixes three vocabularies: M&A (acquisition, sellers, closing, sell-side advisory), tax (indirect taxes, assessment, compliance, consumption reform) and technology (platform, integration with enterprise systems, software). Each has terms with no literal translation, and the interpreter decides before the session how each will be said in both languages.

lingo builds a glossary for each mandate from the client's documents: presentations, announcements, organization charts and the list of participants. The earlier the material arrives, the better the result. lingo's master glossary, structured by sector and by language pair, is the base for this work. See also the page on simultaneous interpretation for the technology sector in English.

Confidentiality in M&A transactions

Until a deal is announced, only a small group knows about it. lingo signs an NDA, valid for 5 years, before receiving any document. Alex Barros does not accept competing mandates on the same deal, so that there is no conflict of interest over who serves whom. In cross-border transactions, this rule weighs on both sides of the table.

The quote amount is the final invoice amount, issued by Lingo Qi Interpretações LTDA. There is no surprise extra fee after the event. For the factors that make up the price, see the page on how much simultaneous interpretation costs in SP.

How to hire interpretation to communicate a deal

The starting point is the automatic quote at lingo.com.br/orcamento or WhatsApp. State the date, the language pair, the format (in person, remote or hybrid), the number of participants and the type of session. If the subject is confidential, say so in the first message, so that the NDA is signed before any document is sent.
