The 24 sectors served by lingo

Each sector has its own vocabulary, its own acronyms and its own speech conventions. The list below summarizes what changes from one sector to another and points to the page for each one, with the glossary and the most common event formats.

Finance — private equity, mergers and acquisitions, capital markets, banks and asset management. Vocabulary of valuation, covenants, EBITDA, leverage and capital structure, with absolute numerical precision.

Legal — arbitration, legal due diligence, international contracts and litigation. The challenge is to keep the exact meaning of terms that have no direct equivalent between Brazilian and Anglo-Saxon law.

How lingo chooses the interpreter for each sector

lingo does not treat simultaneous interpretation as a generic service. For each sector, Alex Barros works the English–Portuguese pair directly and, for other language pairs, selects interpreters with native fluency and documented corporate experience in the event's sector. Selection considers track record, familiarity with the vocabulary and availability for preparation.

The sector glossary accumulated from previous engagements serves as the base. At each event, the interpreter adds the specific terms of the company: internal acronyms, product names, metrics and executives' names. For recurring engagements, the glossary accumulates session after session.

Events that cross sectors

Many real events cross two or more sectors. An agribusiness merger has financial and agricultural vocabulary; a due diligence in energy mixes legal, environmental and regulatory terms; a health product launch touches technology and regulation. In those cases, the glossary covers all the fields involved, and the interpreter is chosen for the combination.

Most common event formats by sector

Each sector has a characteristic calendar and event profile. In finance, board meetings, earnings presentations, investor days and roadshows predominate, almost always with sensitive material and short deadlines. In legal, sessions are long and formal, such as arbitration hearings and due diligence rounds, and require word-for-word fidelity.

In agribusiness, the calendar follows the harvest and the sector's trade fairs, with technical visits and commercial meetings with international buyers. In technology, events are launches, developer conferences and recurring training, where the vocabulary is standardized and many terms stay in English.

In health, medical congresses concentrate a large number of speakers and parallel sessions, with rigorous clinical terminology. In energy, mining and infrastructure, the focus is meetings with investors, licensing and field visits.
