Units, prices and conversions in commodity contracts

In a soybean negotiation, the reference price comes from the Chicago exchange, the CBOT, in US cents per bushel, while the Brazilian producer thinks in reais per 60-kilogram bag. One bushel of soybeans is equivalent to about 27.2 kilograms, and the interpreter needs to follow this conversion when the trader talks about basis, the premium or discount over the exchange price. For coffee and sugar, the reference is the pound, and for beef, the arroba of 15 kilograms.
